Aviation Museums - The Top Ten in the USA

National Air & Space Museum - Washington D.C.
The Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum maintains the largest collection of historic air and spacecraft in the world. It is also a vital center for research into the history, science, and technology of aviation and space flight, as well as planetary science and terrestrial geology and geophysics.

San Diego Air & Space Museum - San Diego, CA
Aviation history is truly a remarkable story, and it all unfolds at the San Diego Air & Space Museum. Your journey through the history of flight begins as you stand beneath a model of the Montgolfier brothers' hot air balloon of 1783 - the first manned vehicle in recorded history to break the bonds of gravity and lift man above the Earth.

The Museum of Aviation
- Warner Robins, GA
Visitors to Warner Robins will discover the "Crown Jewel" of Middle Georgia -- the Museum of Aviation, now the second largest museum in the United States Air Force. Displaying 93 aircraft and hundreds of exhibits on a beautiful 51 acre site, the museum has grown into a significant exhibit, education and cultural center drawing more than 500,000 visitors a year.

The Museum of Flight - Seattle, WA

Step into the Personal Courage Wing and experience stories of courage as told through a collection of 28 fighter aircraft—in a setting that will simply amaze you. In the steel and glass Great Gallery, the history of aviation soars past, with dozens of full-size aircraft flying in formation six stories above. Sit in the cockpit of a real SR-71 Blackbird or F/A-18 Hornet. Board America's first presidential jet—Air Force One. Climb aboard the sleek Concorde. Step back 95 years in the magnificently restored Red Barn®, birthplace of The Boeing Company. From hands-on kid's workshops, to fly-ins, to interaction with the people who made aviation history, The Museum of Flight has something to offer every member of your family or group. Come experience the story of flight from the dawn of aviation to the Space Age.

American Helicopter Museum - West Chester, PA
The American Helicopter Museum and Education Center is the nation's premier aviation museum devoted exclusively to helicopters. We collect, restore and display historic aircraft and chronicle the origin and development of rotary wing aircraft.

Kansas Aviation Museum - Wichita, Kansas
The vision for the museum is a relatively simple one:  a campus-like setting in which the administration building—returned to its original glory—is the focal point surrounded by hangars filled with static displays, restoration work and even more.  These hangars should ultimately include educational facilities, theaters, and gift shops.  A facility like this would be unrivaled anywhere in the world.  It WOULD attract tourists from around the globe.

Evergreen Aviation Museum - McMinnville, Oregon
Site is the home of the HK-1 flying boat known as the "Spruce Goose". A great aircraft collection with photos and history along with the Hughes flying boat.
